June 19, 2005 - Billion Dollar Films Lands Film Industry Production.
Sound Matters, a film industry documentary on surround sound in US theaters, is being produced by Billion Dollar Films.
There has been a lot of concern about the quality of surround sound in theaters throughout the US, which is why IMAX exists. Most theaters, which had installed the cheapest systems available when surround sound became available, don't use the systems anymore, due to an extra expense associated with broacasting the full range of sound available for new film releases.
The documentary is designed to capture movie goer's opinions on the importance of surround sound in theaters - does it really matter. This documentary is being produced in 11 producers in 11 different cities including Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington DC, New Orleans, Houston, Philidelphia, Phoenix, Atlanta, Seattle.
The project is primarily for use by the movers and shakers in Hollywood as they negotiate new contracts with companies that control thousands of movie theaters in the US. Regal Entertainment Group alone operates 5,000 screens in over 500 locations. The issue is whether to focus on promoting more iMax operations or encourage existing theaters to provide better sound.
